In 2013, at the request of the Run 169 Towns Society, the Turkey Can Can in Sterling was created. The mission of the club is to run a timed road race in each of Connecticut’s 169 towns and, at the time, there were no races in Sterling. The first orders of business were to develop a course, find a local charity to benefit, and, possibly, a presenting sponsor. From day one, Rick and Elena Hermonot, owners of Ekonk Hill Turkey Farm, were on board. They were generous in writing a check every year to our charity partner Project PIN Food Pantry, but they also wanted to be more involved. After a couple of years, Rick created a beautiful 2-mile course on their farm and have been hosting our event every year since. And every year, Project PIN benefits from their generosity. Sadly, this past February, Rick unexpectedly passed away. Elena has insisted that we continue to hold this race and this year’s Turkey Can Can is being held in Rick’s memory.
